Becky & Ruth Recipients Of Quarterly Recognition Award

Financial Advice Sutton Coldfield
L – R Becky Dyche and Ruth Hughes

Every quarter we nominate the person that we think has gone above and beyond and deserves special recognition. The Senior Management Team then make the difficult decision as to who receives this accolade.

Of the nominees for Q4 2019 there were two people whom it was impossible to decide which should receive the award.  So Paraplanner Ruth Hughes and Becky Dyche of our Client Liaison department were declared joint recipients.

Charlotte Trueman, Head of Client Support said “Becky has won this award owing to her developing a deep understanding of our new back office system, Xplan. Becky has become the go-to person on all things Xplan related. Becky has also been flexible with her working hours and is happy to stay longer to ensure the work we do for our clients is done that day. Becky is also instrumental in organising monthly marketing campaigns and assisted with a number of mailshots in the last quarter of 2019.”

John Smith, Head of Paraplanning said “Ruth has won this award because it is sometimes difficult to believe that she has only been a member of the Paraplanning team for 18 months.  Ruth consistently produces research and suitability reports of an exceptional standard to support our financial advisers who provide financial advice local to Sutton Coldfield.”  He went on to say “Ruth always exhibits a can-do approach and is always willing to go the extra mile.  Ruth has also been instrumental in the successful integration of our new back office systems and is a true asset to Paraplanning and Four Oaks.”

Becky remarked, “I was shocked and pleased to receive this award, but it does give you a boost”.  Ruth said, “I was surprised, but I think everyone deserves this award as we all do our job to the best of our ability.” Well done to both Becky and Ruth who each received a gift and a certificate.

Welcoming Andy Robinson To Our Adviser Team

Financial Advice Sutton Coldfield
Andy Robinson

We are delighted to announce that Andy Robinson has joined us as a Protection Adviser. Andy was in the GB Windsurfing Olympic Squad for the build-up to the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and has had a great career holding senior positions in business. He joins us with a wealth of knowledge from the “University Of Life”.

Having been a client of financial services for many years, now he’s on the other side of the fence Andy sees himself very much as the client’s champion. He readily identifies with the concerns and worries that people may have when seeking advice and no-one will find a more compassionate Adviser.

Andy is trained to give professional advice on financial protection and has joined the fast-track training programme, aiming to become a fully qualified Financial Adviser by the end of the Summer. This will give Andy the scope to advise his clients on a wider range of financial services.

Previously Andy was Managing Director at NT Telecom for over 30 years, he is a family man, he still regularly windsurfs and is a fell runner!  He has signed up to join his colleagues from Four Oaks Financial Services when we run in the Lichfield Half Marathon in May, and with his unique sporting knowledge he’s giving us all a few training tips.

Andy joins our 14 strong team of Advisers who provide financial advice in Sutton Coldfield and throughout the region.

Helping Core Maths Students At Aldridge School

Financial Advice Sutton ColdfieldIn recent months we have been invited to help teachers at Aldridge School add an extra real-world dimension to their classes. Late in 2019 Financial Adviser, David Jones and our Business Development Manager, Simon Trevelyan gave a presentation to students on careers in finance and banking. In early-January David was invited to speak to the Core Maths students.

Maths Teacher & Careers Leader, Vicky Hughes was coming to the end of the Core Maths Finance Module. She asked her students to create a list of questions to ask David. These ranged from “Can you have a financial adviser before the age of 18?” to “Do you know the proportion of people who don’t have enough money to afford a ‘normal’ lifestyle and are not in debt?”

There were 20 questions overall and David had to do some research in order to be prepared for this bright group of youngsters, some of whom have their sights set on Oxbridge. David said, “I was impressed with the quality of the questions, and also the attentiveness of the students during the session.”

Our team of qualified Financial Advisers give financial advice local to Sutton Coldfield and across the area. As a team we take great pride in serving our local community and are delighted to be asked to work with Aldridge School. We have already agreed to support them again by taking part in their Careers Fair in the Spring.

With Costs Rising How Will You Pay For Your Long Term Care?

The cost of a single room in a nursing home costs on average over £800* per week.  That’s around £41,600 per year and the Government doesn’t seem any closer to deciding what the State will provide to help people with their long term care costs. A policy paper was promised over two years ago but has still not been made public.  Currently, the funding of adult social care is broadly speaking, the responsibility of the individual.

Planning for long term care is difficult, as there are so many “and’s, ifs and “maybes” especially if you are not yet in your twilight years, but your Financial Adviser can talk to you about care funding options, as part of our holistic financial planning. With the costs of nursing and residential homes continuing to rise there is the potential for a massive impact on the future prosperity of families and individuals.

A Christmas Surprise For Our Managing Director

Financial Advisers Sutton Coldfield
Louise Lakin, Client Liaison & Martin Ward, Managing Director

At the end of 2019 we held our Christmas party at The Belfry.  We had a private room which gave members of the Senior Management Team the opportunity to say a few words. But our MD, Martin Ward got a surprise when our Receptionist, Olivia Arnold got up to speak.

2019 has been a very successful year for us, and the whole team had joined together to say a big “thank you” to our MD. On behalf of us all, Olivia presented Martin with a gift voucher for Hampton Manor, a nearby Michelin star restaurant with individually designed guest rooms.

The gift giving didn’t stop there! Both Martin Ward, and our team of Financial Advisers, who provide financial advice in Sutton Coldfield and across the region, both expressed their thanks to our Paraplanning, Client Support and Client Liaison teams who support them throughout the year. Every member of our support teams was presented with a gift from both Martin and our Financial Adviser team.

Buddy Bag Bears Appeal

Receptionist Olivia Arnold with one of the Buddy Bag Bears

When we were contacted by our nominated charity Buddy Bag Foundation to raise much needed funds for teddy bears, we were only too pleased to help.  Members of staff purchased a teddy bear for £10 and wrote out a tag that would be attached to a bear destined for a child who would receive a buddy bag.

Buddy bags are rucksacks of essential and well-being items given to children who find themselves in emergency care.  This is often a women’s refuge and the children often have nothing but the clothes they are wearing.  A teddy bear is something for them to love and provide a little comfort. The buddy bag is something for them to call their own.

Buddy Bag Foundation is a registered charity that is local to our office from where our team of Financial Advisers provide financial advice in Sutton Coldfield.

Our Christmas Tree In Local Church Festival

Financial Advisers Sutton Coldfield
The Four Oaks Financial Services Christmas Tree

We are always happy to help and support our local community and were delighted to enter a tree into the Aldridge Methodist Church Christmas Tree Festival.  This was the first time we have entered, and we put in a lot of time and effort into the design and decoration of our tree. The theme was “face-to-face financial advice”.  So, we sourced clear baubles and inserted photographs of each of our Advisers. We sourced toy money and made rosette Christmas decorations with chocolate coins as the centres. We then festooned the tree with baubles and chocolate.

We were amazed by the number of trees that were entered, well over 50 trees. The amount of work and imagination that had gone into them was incredible and the standard was very high.  The trees were voted for by members of the public who purchased tokens for £1 and put the tokens into a jar attached to their favourite tree.  We didn’t win this year, that accolade went to The Rock Choir and was well deserved because their tree was fantastic. We will be back next year though!

Thank you to Olivia and Lisa Arnold for your hard work.  When they are not designing Christmas trees Olivia and Lisa are members of our support team helping our Financial Advisers who give financial advice in Sutton Coldfield and across the area.
